Blues Rock Review – Strong Voice

She has a nice way of blending familiar voices like Bonnie Raitt and Melissa Etheridge and making her own sound.  This album is definitely a showcase for her strong voice.

The latest release by Tricia Freeman, Everyone Can See, is an album that reflects the many diverse influences on her sound.  Born in Texas, she went to Kansas for college before moving to California where she resides in Los Angeles.  Growing up listening to country, blues, and bluegrass shaped her musical direction and one listen to Everyone Can See, and everyone can hear her influences.

The album starts strong with a Bonnie Raitt-esque tune called “Thought You Was The One.”  This blues-tinged song features some nice slide guitar done by K.K. Martin, who also plays pedal steel on many tracks.  From there the album branches out and relies heavily on ballads, almost too much. “Blind Man Wandering,” “Let It Go,” “Help Me,” and “Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean,” a nice cover of a nearly 60-year-old tune, are all strong examples.  More rocking songs like “Thought You Was The One,” “Tell Me,” and the title track “Everyone Can See,” provide a nice change of pace.

Country flavored tunes like “Time To Call A Friend,” “What Is It You Wanted?,” “You’ll Fall In Love With Me,” and the above mentioned “Blind Man Wandering,” and “Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean,” demonstrate Freeman’s strong vocals.  She has a nice way of blending familiar voices like Bonnie Raitt and Melissa Etheridge and making her own sound.  This album is definitely a showcase for her strong voice.
