I’ve said it before but it bears repeating: The one great thing about this gig is that I have the opportunity of “discovering” talent that is on the rise. It allows Boomerocity to turn you on to them. We have another such opportunity by turning y’all on to Tricia Freeman.
I received a review copy of Ms. Freeman’s brand spankin’ new CD, Everyone Can See, and immediately fell in love with it. Her voice is an audio holograph of the most iconic female artists in the history of rock. Tremendous women such as Janis Joplin, Bonnie Bramlett, Bette Midler, Bonnie Raitt, and Melissa Etheridge all come to mind at once when listening to Freeman. And, yet, the sound coming out of her mouth is distinctively her own.
I have to admit that, when I popped Everyone into my CD player, I wasn’t expecting much. Call it an unreasonable lack of expectation based on nothing whatsoever. However, when the first tune, Thought You Was The One, my ears immediately perked up like a Doberman. By the end of the album, I was mentally, to paraphrase Sir Mick’s words, salivating like Pavlov’s dog.
This album oozes rock and blues like any of the best rock and blues albums you’ve ever heard. The musicianship on Everyone is top shelf all the way. K.K. Martin’s guitar work is superb. Chris Whynaught’s talents on clarinet, sax and vocals are phenomenal. The multi-instrument talents of Richard Bredice blow my mind as does Kerry Chester’s keyboard work.
The whole of Everyone Can See is great but, if Boomerocity had to pick a short list of most favorite tunes, they would be the lonely Blind Man Wanderin’ (this one provoked countless slaps of the repeat button), the Etheridge-esque Let It Go, and the rockin’ You’ll Fall In Love With Me.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this album and am really looking forward to following Tricia Freeman’s career for many years to come.
